Clay was the only son of an only son but we managed to raise three sons, Scot, Christian & Morgan and we know have six grandsons and one granddaughter so the name lives on. I have tried on ancestry.com to trace back from Geo Valentine but so far, no luck..Your site is great, glad I stumbled on to it

Fred was the first born followed by Winifred,Elizabeth (Bettie),Jean,Barbara,Margaret(Peggie), Clifford and finally Mildred. Most remain in Leicester area. Fred brought me (2nd son) to Aust in 1965 with 2 sisters. Fred was notable as the person who pushed for the amber light to be removed from the traffic light sequence when turning from red to green. That cut the crash rate at intersections.Love to hear from you.

But our name lives on, because they purchased a 45 acre (18 hectare) farm near Edmonton, Canada and named it "Chattaway Grove". It has woods, trails, and a warm shallow slow-flowing river where people swim, paddle canoes or just drift downstream. They may open Chattaway Grove to campers in summer 2011.

Via Alexander b1821, James b1848 and then Thomas Benjamin b1872 (who married Mary Ann Hill b1874). Alexander with 3 ‘wives’ is a hard man to pin down. He married Mary Ann Elstab in 1848 but his son James’ mother was Mary Ann Green! There’s also another son Alexander (b1846), his mother was Sarah Green! All Alexander senior’s children are shown in his various households, so as far as we can tell, he looked after them. None of the ‘wives’ can be found for sure except possibly Elstab. Alexander senior’s parents James (born 1790 in Wapping) and Mary (Wright) had 9 other children ... Alexander's grandparents were possibly Daniel & Ann (Johnson)..." Stepney 1908) and descends from James b. 1848 & Mary Brown (I noticed a 'bridge' in red on your main tree but I couldn't follow it). James & Mary Brown married in 1890 after being together for 20 years. Throughout they lived at a different address from that given on the marriage cert. (a 20 minute walk away) and there were no linking factors other than James' father being named Alexander. I've gone to great lengths to 'prove' that this couple is in fact the same (as 'mine') and in so doing have unearthed a lot of info. I note your interest in any military 'Finds' and in trying to establish various links have turned up 3 relatives one of whom was in the illustrious 9th (Queen's Royal) Lancers (aka The Delhi Spearmen), not bad for an East End boy. I've done quite a bit of other research which could also complement your London branch but have to tell you that my computer skills are limited. To

I spent 20 years searching paper archives as you did and cannot wait to do more research on the internet. I still think that the name could have derived from someone who lived on the "way " to Chadwick, which is very close to Berkswell and Hampton in Arden. ie Chadwick way. Have spent some time with Chris Chataway's family and have a biography of their family written at Rotherwick. Not sure if I ever sent you this. Hope to hear from you. Well done

James Chataway & Elizabeth Anne Drinkwater. My connection is throught my great-gradfather's sister Eleanor Latham, born Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire, who married John Alterieth and ended up in Australia.
